The history of the Institute’s establishment is connected with the construction and development of the chemical and petrochemical complex in Eastern Siberia. By the government decision in 1949 the Irkutsk branch of the Moscow All-Union Research and Development Institute of Chemical Engineering was established in Irkutsk.
In 1967, the branch was modified into an independent institute – the Irkutsk Research and Development Engineering Institute of Chemical and Petroleum Machinery.
In 1993 IrkutskNIIhimmash was modified into an open joint-stock company – OJSC “IrkutskNIIhimmash”.
In August 2015, in accordance with Federal Law No. 208-FZ of 26.12.1995 (as amended on June 29, 2015) “On Joint-Stock Companies” OJSC “IrkutskNIIhimmash”was reformed into JSC “IrkutskNIIhimmash” upon the decision of the General Shareholders Meeting.
Starting with the scientific and technical support of the plant under construction No. 16 (now JSC “Angarsk petrochemical company”), the institute develops highly efficient equipment for chemical industries that ensures the release of important to the country and exported products for the next years.
For the development and manufacturing application of fundamentally new welded scroll high-pressure vessels for ammonia synthesis units, in 1976, the Institute’s personnel jointly with the “Uralhimmash” plant (Ekaterinburg) and the n.a. E.O. Paton Academy of Sciences of Ukraine were awarded the State Prize.
In addition to domestic factories, the institute’s specialists developed equipment for the enterprises of Cuba, Brazil, China and Vietnam.
Since its foundation, the institute has been conducting work on technical diagnostics at potentially hazardous production facilities in a broad fashion.
